The DQ/SQ divide is the intellectual/reality divide. Pirsig says
killintellectual patterns and morality is served. Reality is realizedMore
fully. Reality being patterns of Quality. Intellectualize all youWant but
doing so buries you deeper in SOM.

Chris:
This is simply not right at all - I feel. What you are talking about is Zen.
Not the MOQ. Furthermore, this, I fear, is exactly the kind of talk that
will kill the MOQ. The MOQ is a theory - it isn¹t the Dynamic Quality it
talks about as well we all know, and it can never be. The DQ/SQ divide
brings about a new way of interpreting the world - but that¹s what we do
with the MOQ - we interpret. Even the WORDS Dynamic Quality brings us away
from it. But it is still better than the SOM. That¹s why we fight for it. If
anyone here wishes to ³save Quality from intellectualizing² I suggest you
try Zen out. It has worked quite well for the last 1400 years or so - but
please don¹t talk about it, don¹t try to put names on it, and DON¹T confuse
it with the MOQ.

The MOQ is a theory, one that may bring about Better Days for mankind - but
that makes it something. Static. Not DQ. Not God. Not Zen. but a Good
theory.

Hi Chris, Ron, and All,

In the story I used to show the movement of reality from an Absolute to the
Moon, it seems the simple matter becomes more complex matter. (I don¹t have
a different word for substance.) For Pirsig evolution describes a movement
from the more complex to the more rarefied from the inorganic dq/sq of the
moon to the dq/sq that characterizes the intellectual level. What are the
steps? I make two suppositions inner/outer reality, and seven steps instead
of 4/5.

Perception of the first three steps of evolution focus on the moon¹s
influence on the Earth. The next three steps on the Earth¹s influence, the
next step the influence of the planets, and finally the blazing influence of
the Sun which starts the whole process. From heavy material to more
rarefied material. When Earth gets involved and Social and Intellectual
steps are made, the next step is totally inner MOQ meta level.

Our individual preparation for the more rarefied level is hindered. E.G.,
MarshaV¹s grandson¹s reaction to the backfire of a car indicates how
reaction scars occur that can influence the child¹s behavior. When the inner
reality changes a more heavy-mechanical reaction takes place.
