[Ron]
You were in four corners? Get to see mesa Verdi?

[Krimel]
Yeah, we went to Mesa Verde; a truly awesome place. We drove way out to
the
Hopi Mesas which are about a 100 miles from anywhere. It was torture
because
they won't let you take pictures on the Mesas but we bought a couple of
kachinas from the carvers there. They also invited us to a ceremony
which I
didn't catch the name or the purpose of. I thought it might be something
for
tourists but when we got there, there weren't many other tourists but a
couple hundred Hopis. I got the impression this was not a commercial
enterprise when these guys in deer costumes started throwing produce,
candy
and cigarettes out to the people standing around them. We also visited
Zuni.
It is weird because with all that we decided we didn't have time to go
to
the Grand Canyon.

In South Dakota we stayed at Fort Robinson where Crazy Horse was
captured
and killed under a flag of truce. We spent some time at Pine Ridge and
went
to a big powwow in Rapid City. There we were invited to a releasing of
spirits ceremony for a young man who was killed in Daddy Bush's Iraq
War. We
got to meet Red Cloud's grandson and lots of other nice people.

Ron:
I really enjoyed the black hills, Mount Rushmore seemed
So insignificant, almost like graffiti. Bringing form back into the
Conversation, when traveling the four corners region, a region of
extremes,
I really liked traveling through the canyons and desert
, the rock formations reminded me of the temples of India, rock
Croppings took on all sorts of form going through marble canyon.
I wondered how much natural formations influenced our perception.
At the time it seemed most certain we mimicked the canyons in our
structures.

Being alone in the vast expanse was daunting. I lived on ravioli and
Beer.
Stayed at state parks where I could and rest stops and motel
Parking lots when I couldn't.

Noticed the Navajo weren't overly friendly.
