Hi Marsha,

I don't know about "primary cause," but we must be reading different reports.
In the Guardian there's a report that the production of bioplastics in place of
oil-based plastic is contributing to food shortages: "Many of the bioplastics 
are
also contributing to the global food crises by taking over large acres of land
previously used to grow crops for human consumption." Like in many 
well-intentioned
government programs, there are often unforeseen and unintended negative 
consequences.
