[Platt] All concepts are created by someone. [Krimel] So are imaginary friends, fairy tales and paranoid delusions.
[Platt] Seems clear enough to me. From the author's text: "One Marxist concept operative in multiculturism is its belief that all inequalities, including cultural inequality, is evil. Thus, in the eyes of multiculturists all cultures are to be equally valued." [Krimel] Right this multiculturalist boogeyman that haunts your dreams may actually be baaaad. You have simply failed to show that it actually exists in a curriculum somewhere. Multicultural education, yes. Multiculturalism, no. The only examples of the boogeyman version I could find seemed to be in college courses which tend to be far more nuanced that you or the author you cited let on. [Platt] I do not favor programs that discriminate on the basis of race. Apparently, you do. You cannot end racial discrimination by engaging in racial discrimination. [Krimel] Those kind of programs have been stricken down by the Supreme Court since the Bakke case in the 1980s. The court has not been terribly clear or absolute in its rulings however. They seem to prefer looking at the merits of individual cases rather than making sweeping pronouncements on this very complicated issue > [Krimel] > War profiteering means profiting improperly from warfare. [Platt] What constitutes "improper" profiting from warfare? [Krimel] With the country at war and gas prices doubling Exxon reported quarterly earnings of $11 billion, the highest earnings ever for a US company. This is more politely called a windfall. A windfall profits tax was originally imposed after oil companies received huge profits as a result of the Arab oil embargo. [Platt] If the government confiscates all the profits from a company wouldn't you call that a takeover by the government? If not, what has to happen for a company to be nationalized? [Krimel] I suppose IF that happen it would be a bit extreme but it hasn't. In order to nationalize a company the government would have to take over the ownership and management of the company. > [Platt] > You call $5 trillion tiny? And no improvement in the poverty rates is > "mission accomplished?" You're kidding, right? > > [Krimel] > No I'm not but it sounds like you are making up numbers. $5 trillion > dollar? > What hat are you pulling that rabbit out of? Whatever hat it is you must > be sitting on it. [Platt] You doubt the figure? Show that it's wrong, if you can. Or eat your hat. [Krimel] It's your number where did you get it? > [Krimel] > Slavery wasn't practiced in any of the countries you mentioned before. But > you would be willing to acknowledge the similarity between the genocide of > Native Americans and the atrocities of the 20th century? [Platt] What countries are you referring to? As for similarities -- in kind, yes, in scale no. Do you agree Western civilization was responsible for ending slavery? Or do you prefer not to answer? [Krimel] The countries YOU listed earlier. Try to keep up will you? European countries enacted laws to end slavery, of course. The United State fought its bloodiest war and more than 100 years later is still feeling the pain of that tragedy. So to recap on this point: You agree that America's history of slavery and genocide were bad and should be taught in public schools. But you don't feel bad about them and believe it was all worthwhile because they resulted in a cozy lifestyle for you, plus the dictators and tyrants of the past century were much nastier that we were. Is that about right? > [Krimel] > I don't know anything about that but I notice that Ralph Nader opposes > these mandates. You must be pleased to find yourself in such good company. [Platt] I am indeed. When Ralph or Hillary or Obama are right, I'll agree with them. I would hope you would do the same with McCain, O'Reilly or Limbaugh. But, I won't hold my breath. [Krimel] I suppose a blind hog finds an acorn now and then but I won't hold my breath.
