woods:

You said above that the majority of Holland voted against being in the EU,
but
then Holland joined the EU anyways?

Andre:

The referendum was a vote for the wording of the European 'Constitution' or
rather like a 'covenant' between all parties involed. This was part of the
bad 'sales campaign', because it created confusion. The politicians couldn't
even tell us exactly what it was, its status, distribution of rights and
obligations etcetc.
The main thing lots of people saw was a shifting of power from Holland to
Brussels ( seat of the EU Parliament).

The EU as economic powerbase has indeed been in place for quite some
time. Most European countries are part of that (and still growing,
i.e.possible inclusion of Turkey).
What I am referring to was the next step: making the EU also a
centralised, political powerbase.

Hope this is clear woods
