Khoo says:

Hi Andre
I will get back to you on the points below but in the meantime, something to
think about from Mckinsey:

Andre:

Hi Khoo, finally got around to reading this (it seems light years ago we
spoke!) and hear what you say. The Giant spreading its tentacles all over
the place and a truly remarkable achievement indeed. The possibilities are
only limited by one's imagination.
In part, I feel, due to application of simple, sound, intelligent monetary
policy, not being carried away with itself. Knowing the value and place (in
terms of importance) of money. Something some our American friends may learn
from!)
Anyway, my reflections Khoo, and these are based on conversations I have
had/have, with colleagues and students is that this 'progress' ,this
intellectually guided advance, is made possible by 'devouring' human beings.
Of course I am looking at it through Western glasses.
I also read Pirsig (Lila, p392-3)'...Oriental social cohesiveness and
ability to work long hard hours without complaint... resulted from working
out, centuries ago, of the problem of *dharma *and the way in which it
combines freedom and ritual'.
The concept of freedom is experienced differently ( hence incomprehension in
many quarters about Western criticism of human rights and human freedom
violations..the people I talk with really have no idea what the West is
talking about).
But I detect a big problem looming and this is that the historically
transmitted cultural patterns of social cohesiveness are slowly but surely
disappearing. Especially the young, (also forced by this movement of the
Giant), cannot get jobs where they have traditionally been, cannot support
their parents once they do have a job (elsewhere) because the cost of living
is rising...the ties are being broken. The young have lost their
*dharma *connection.
They know they are 'on their own' despite Govt. promisses. They become more
selfish (if you don't get given you learn to take)...they are bubbling with
ideas, initiative, self-expression and within this whole context are
becoming disillusioned and (to put it mildly) very angree with a Party
(which has multiple uzi's on every street corner) which is not delivering
i.e. the Party policy is taking things away rather than maintaining
opportunities. They are not allowed to act on their ideas, initiative,
creativity, self-expression etc.
This is the basis of my pessimism Khoo: on the one hand I notice a waste of
human resources/ideas and on the other hand a Party intent on creating
and following this Giant. I think it may lead to further social
repression...violently.
Is this an MoQ example of a perfectly justifiable moral act of Intellect's
assertion/dominance over Society?

I am very interested to read your reflections on these thoughts.
