I think in the context of Lila the koan to which you refer he means 'suspend'/ halt/nullify. Do not let it interfere... . Where he uses the word "kill' in the argument of: it is better for an idea to kill a society than it is for a society to kill an idea, I like to think that he does not mean this literally.
