[Willblake2] I'm not sure what you mean as far as Heraclytian, and I'm too lazy to look it up. but it appears you are referring to the Yin Yang concept of light and dark, or more appropriately light and absence of it. I was using the conservation
of energy as a means to explain to you the cyclical nature of the Tao. Stepping in the same river twice is exactly what we are doing. That is what I meant by the conservation of energy. [Krimel] Heraclitus was the ancient Greek dude who said you can't step in the same river twice. I believe he meant that. not only does the river change each time you step in it but you change as well. You seem to keep saying that every thing is the same and nothing changes. I believe that is the position of Parmenides. I am very much in the Heraclitian camp on this one. Also, I think of Yin and Yang in terms of active and passive or static and dynamic. Light and dark are just one form of these. [Willblake2] It appears that you are discussing the world of forms, which is fine, I was discussing the topic of an underlying reality (if such a thing exists). [Krimel] What does "underlying reality" mean? [Willblake2] It is good to find comfort and meaning in the variability of forms, it will keep you busy for a long time, but you may be looking in the wrong place for metaphysics. I have found it to be kind of a dead end. In the same way, using history to validate metaphysics really does not form much of a position. There has been no change to mythology in man. We could be discussing the same thing a thousand years from now and not have got anywhere. [Krimel] Physics/metaphysics? It seems to me that you can't have one without the other. What kind of answer are you actually looking for? I seriously disagree that mythology does not change. I think the modern world as enriched mythology immeasurably, both in the forms that it takes and in the metaphors it employs. The themes are indeed similar across time but they are also very different. I take it to be the task of each generation to interpret and expand both the Mythos and the Logos. God, I hope we make progress over the next 1000 years. We sure did during the past millennium.
