The most discouraging thing was what dmb said, but it wasn't his misunderstanding of me that was upsetting, it was his comment about Dan's buddist story, some vague thing about a sign, he says. See, that was discouraging. Because I, like Marsha, absolutely love that story. I loved it when Dan first posted it when I was a lurker, and I loved Marsha's reposting after I'd been inspired by it to try and match it myself with my own stories. Not in a competitive, American Idol, who do you love the most, style. More a Jazz musician hearing the music in another's thoughts style and feeling the impulse to blow some notes of my own. It meant a lot. It was why I started this style of storytelling with a dedication to "Dan and gav" and have kept that dedication uppermost in mind ever since. And dmb, evidently, didn't even recall the music and poetry in that simple prose koan. So if he isn't going to "get" Dan, who he does love, how is he going to get me, who he doesn't? He's not, I guess. That's discouraging. Oh well. I could give a shit that Dave doesn't believe in God. lots of people don't and for damn good reason. What's discouraging beyond hope, is that evidently he doesn't believe in good.
