Sorry Mark, I'll not be deflected by your counter questions ... it's not my position that is in doubt here.
Whether or not you believe it, if you think Pirsig wants us all to literally return to the hippy garden, then you have misread Pirsig. He is quite explicit about where that project goes wrong. He certainly wanted us to back off from the post-Greek, post-enlightenment SOMist certainties driving Victorian and post-Victorian socio-economic-cultural development (which continues today as you say) - but he wasn't so dumb as to suggest returning to square one was the better option. (See Dan and Dave's responses) Was John Lennon a complete idiot ? Absolutely not. A straw man if ever I heard one. He was a dreamer, and not the only one. We all need dreamers and dreams. But even he was a pragmatist when he wasn't dreaming the imaginary. We all need to dream, but we need to act in this world too, using both halves of our brains. How about back to Quality ? That's what I (we) said. Ian On Wed, Apr 6, 2011 at 9:17 PM, 118 <[email protected]> wrote: > Hi Ian, > > That's funny, the hippy/romantic style.
