My thoughts too, when the concept of neti-neti essentialy nullifies experience
as less than or limited the risk is developing the appearence-reality problem
again.

Right, and all sorts of other problems surrounding the
nihilism/anti-intellectualism/relativism/subjectivism morass. At the risk of
violating the 'undefined' taboo, I'd say that Pirsig's "Quality" is more "this!
not that!" (in terms of value-experience) than "not this, not that". That
moment of pre-intellectual experience, be it the amoeba moving from acid, the
awesomeness of that song the first time you hear it, the solution to the stuck
screw, all of these are experiences of something (this) being 'better' than
something else (that).

Neti, neti is in many used (at least as its been used here) as a "mu" answer.
But if Pirsig himself saw a 'mu' as the only answer, we'd never have been given
ZMM and LILA. He would've just returned to the silence of Montana's mountains
and shut up. Instead, ZMM and LILA are answers, the term "Quality" IS a
definition, it IS an answer. ZMM is that immediate semiotic/meaning point, just
saying the 'undefined is Quality' has meaning, and its this meaning that
radiates into LILA (and its also elaborated on in ZMM, of course).

Are you planning to do Milford on the bike?

[Arlo]
Was thinking about it. Its mostly Interstate between here and there, and I've
been hesitant to ride above 55mph with my wrist not 100% (for emergency braking
reasons). Might be cold too, the weather this summer has been quite abnormal,
wasn't prepared to dig out the full leathers already.
