Hi David M,

Following the path of thought introduced by Pirsig, the biological forces
of sex, drugs and violence have overcome the weakened bulwarks of social
level pattens. The assault on society's ramparts that hold back the dark
forces of the jungle is constant, ranging from undermining the ideals of
truth and justice by relativists, lowering educational standards by
egalites, and appealing to the lowest common denominator by media elites.
As a result, mediocrity rather than excellence is today's cultural code.

As usual, Pirsig put it in perspective: "Everybody wants their children to
be valedictorians, but nobody is supposed to be better than anybody else."
(Lila, 7)

Paralyzed by that conundrum, it's little wonder people fail to appreciate
"more sophisticated and finer pleasures and possibilities."

But, I could be wrong.

Platt
