Actually because the Units of Study are pretty new so I wasn't expecting feedback on that. I'm thinking more in terms of those who've been going to Columbia to the Reading Institute and implementing Lucy's stuff. Many of the NY public schools have the project people in their schools and many have had the home grown institutes from Columbia in their districts. I was hoping for feedback from them.

I assume what you are talking about when you say ala Lucy Calkins is the new reading Units of Study and I haven't yet heard anyone talking about it or responding to it. I would love to see the materials, but don't see that happening anytime soon, so I'm relying on second-hand experience here. Info, anyone? I have questions for anyone who's familiar with both. How do you see them meshing? What are the advantages of the Cafe over the RW model? Are there any? Do you have any advice for us? I guess my concerns are that the Cafe model looks great in helping with the management piece but is what I would consider to be step 2 in this whole process. We need to implement the model (students reading on their own level rather than drag the class thru one novel) before teachers have something to manage. Please share any insight you all have into this!
