Dave Jennings has been described by "insiders I know" as a great Speaker of theThe media set you up to believe that it's Randy Staten and Spike Moss, two truly insupportable people, who want the rules followed. However, the original press conference to air the grievances was called by the Urban League, a far different group. They have been joined by Tyrone Terrill (St. Paul's human rights office) who, in yesterdays Strib, is quoted as saying, "I'm tired of everyone calling this a race issue...."
House. .... This is a talented and intelligent man, degrees or not. .... Ah, but he is a middle-aged white guy, and that's what the kerfuffle is all about, despite protestations to the contrary.
WM: The kerfluffle is that the rules changed. The rules were that persons aspiring to superintendent status had to have a PhD in some aspect of education and experience as an educator in a school setting. Those who aspired went about the expensive proposition of getting credentials and put in their time as classroom teachers. Then the rules changed! This happens to women and people of color often and it's an insult and illegal. It's not about David Jennings, per se, but about changing the rules in mid-stream. Again, the rules were changed to accommodate a white guy.
The issues described by the Urban League were and are changing the rules and lack of community input. It is those two issues that have the backing of a much larger and more diverse group.
