Follow-up Comment #9, bug #18293 (project mypaint):
Okay, I'll leave it at that for a bit. I agree that closing the window to
snap in is pretty strange behaviour, and that we shouldn't go that route.
Joshua: I may experiment with your second bullet point (snap out uses the
preview outline to place as now, but when the window's placed its next move
happens by invoking the WM, and drag to snap in doesn't work). Keep the
snap-in button of course :) David Revoy mentioned in IRC that empty sidebar
opening up to accept new items for drag-to-snap-in was visually disconcerting
and made floating window positioning tricky, which is a fair point, and doing
away with drag-to-snap-in would be one way of addressing that :)
