Follow-up Comment #11, bug #18293 (project mypaint):
Maybe the sidebar's a bad idea in terms of vertical space. It's pretty awful
if you have a big screen and only dock a couple of tools (that big grey
area...) Was it Martin or Jon who mentioned that it was a shame GTK can't
just put widgets at arbitrary positions overlaying a drawable area? I can't
remember, but you sort of can: gtk.Layout does it.
* Attached a quick and incomplete playpen demo of an alternative scheme for
managing fake windows within the main window. Can you give it a try and let me
know if you think it's worth pursuing? I'd want fewer bugs and more
snap-togetherness in any real version of this.
The idea is that you can stick a windowlet to inside edge of the main window
just by moving it, and that position gets preserved no matter how big the
outer window is.
Sadly, this way of doing things dictates a sucky non-window-manager resize
for the windowlets, but maybe the resultant layout possibilities are nicer.
