We had a tech in our town that "sold" her business, which really was
just some used equipment in a rented room and her client list, to a
girl fresh out of nail school. Both were naive to think that this
would work out. The old tech left the business, the new tech struggled
to meet the speed and efficiency of the old tech, the clients then
left in search of other techs (I have a few of them) and the new
tech's business went belly up.

I don't know all the horrible details, but YEARS later when I ran into
the new techs mother (she was selling some nail products at a yard
sale) I asked her whatever happened to the old tech her daughter
bought the business from, and her exact words were "We don't talk
about that"! So years later it was still a painful subject. As one
person already said, you can't sell people and your clients are free
to go where ever they want.

Personally, before I left Chicago I visited several salons as a client
just to find someone decent who I could refer my clientel to. Then I
blessed them with all my referrals as I moved out of state. How many
clients stayed I do not know, but I was at peace knowing that I at
least tried to find them a reliable tech.
