Surely, if you're just going to dump the thing, its worth prising the
lid off and having a quick prod around inside in case its something
obvious like a loose joint? Could it be the serial cable?
BTW, I found that "Carrier Detect" option. In Genesis prefs,
Interfaces, PPP there is a checkbox called that. I've no idea exactly
what it does, but it might be worth a try. Perhaps somebody knows?
