I'm not sure the word is partially good, and my First and only language is English.
Designated means, that only certain types of a thing can use it, eg only Motorbikes over 500cc can use a Motorway. ie Selected, or Chosen. Its not mean "Designed For" as in the road is designed for cars, but other vehicles can use it if they wish. I can understand the confusion....
