Mike, You could pick up a caliper: http://www.harborfreight.com/4-inch-digital-caliper-47256.html They have cheaper ones, down to $3.00, but this should do the trick. I got a set of two plastic calipers for like $7 from the cheapo-bin at the local parts store back in Wisconsin. They are pretty handy. You don't really need to know the 'correct' measurement, as long as you get the 'same' measurement on the new piece. I don't trust the numbers on my cheapo caliper, but I know that if I get the same before and after measurements, i'll be okay.
