I also have an ST1100 so I am biased. I have a couple of friends that are
over the top biased against anything that isn't made in Europe. However,
one member of that crowd just sold his BMW in favor of the V-Strom (Which I
rode and will never get on one again). The bottom line for him was when he
had a breakdown in Western Canada and had to find a way of shipping his
bike about 200 miles to the closest place that could work on it. Suffice
to say, it ruined the trip for him and he went looking for a bike that can
be worked on by any shop when he got home. I don't remember what the
problem was but it was fairly major but I was surprised they couldn't fix
it at the shop in town.

The ST is just flat out fun to ride and for me comfortable. The foot
position is further back then the Nighthawk but not as bad as a sport
bike. I've put 400+ mile on my bike and not had any problems. Plus the
power is amazing when you need it. Which brings me to the Concours. More
power - yes - but how much power do you really need? I was going up hill
on a mountain road, 8,000 feet 3/4 throttle and was at 105 before I
realized it. I passed 5 cars easily. Not sure how much more power I would
need.
