Allow me to second the motion of installing instances of stuff with 
VirtualBox.  Best of both worlds without dual boot - base operating 
system linux of choice (going to have to check out Mint) with Windblows 
or what have you in VirtualBox.

I would recommend you getting your own kit rather than relying on the 
company unit.
