Interesting... so I could have my Linux install on an external hard
drive and access it in its own window via VirtualBox running on Windows
(probably Vista)? That would probably work out OK and allow me to not
carry another laptop.

yeah, it would be nice to have my own gear. Then I wouldn't have to
worry about FUBARing the company gear while doing something personal.

OK, so how's this for a plan....

1) Buy an external hard drive, 2.5" form factor so it can later be
installed into a laptop. (shop for a new laptop while I'm at it)

2) Copy my existing Mandriva 2009 install to the new drive.

3) Experiment with accessing Mandriva on the external drive from a
company laptop running Windows. Access could be via dual-boot or VMWare
/ VirtualBox.

4) Continue shopping for a personal laptop as I travel, and when I find
one I like, install the "currently external" hard drive into the new laptop.

The advantages:
+ I'm not rushed to spend money immediately, and by the time I do find
something to spend money on, I should have more money to spend.
+ I've got a copy of my personal data on the external drive
+ I've still got my original data at home (even though I won't see it
for over 2 months, LOL)

Disadvantages:
- If I order online, e.g. from Dell, I'll have to figure out where to
have it shipped and that changes nearly every day. That can be dealt
with by spending extra on overnight shipping.

Thanks for your thoughts/suggestions!!
