This is not only a weak move, it's also a non-intelligent one. Not only do you loose a developer which had significant contributions, you also make yourself look bad by trying to look good.
First you publicly shame Ben by displaying him as a sexist, even going as far as saying you'd fire him if he was at your company. Then you turn it around saying it was his own decision to leave the project. Even if if was his own CALL to leave, the decision was make for him by Joyent. If the project itself no longer backs the contributor, the contributor can't do anything else but leave. It's a shame that for a language that has such a strong emphasis on community, the company behind it turns out to be the weakest link in the chain. I for one don't want to be associated with a company that handles it's FREE resources so badly.
