Is your MySQL server running on the same machine?  Sorry, I wasn't
following the thread ... can you connect from the commandline?

Type 'locate Defs.pm' to find your obs defs file, and look at the
settings for user and password.  Connect using 'mysql -h <host> -u
<user> -p obs' and give the password, each as specified in the Defs
file.  If this fails, it's a mysql config problem.  If it succeeds, it
something hairier.

(I could also recommend installing Debian, but I don't want any of those
flamewars, either <g>).
