The thing to bear in mind, and I said the same about Star Wars when the
question of crafts/tech guys reared up there, is that D&D is fantasy
adventure.. They are supposed to be core rules to have heroic adventures
(and speaking of which, I dug Earthdawn for making that such a core issue.)
The minor stuff like making a clock, or crafting a ring are left to the NPCs
because rarely is either activity a heroic thing.. The game wasn't designed
to be 'realistic' but rather, 'fantastic and heroic'.
Or 'You can fit a square peg in a round hole if you have a big enough
mallet, but to what end..?'
