But what about the hardware? Not all of it will be immediately released under permissive licenses. As Timothy has pointed out, RMS seems to be somewhat more pragmatic about hardware and so long as it is fully documented I don't think there will be too much problem. But we do need to remember the driver software is only a portion of the equation.
