GNU is "Free Software". Opencores is "Free Hardware". This project
is not "Free Hardware", but is "Free Software Hardware". GNU is not
named "Free Software Project", it is named GNU's Not UNIX. It would
be selfish for GNU to rob the community of the former, as it would be
for us to rob the community of "Free Software Hardware Project". So,
why not ANV, or ANV's Not VGA? Well, because it sounds silly. How
did Mr. Stallman get away calling his project GNU?

I suspect he objects more to the presence of "Open" than the absence of "Free".
