I was in the same boat as Scott. I loved Linux from a stability and community point of view, but hated all that command line stuff.
Then I discovered Webmin. Now, the only command line thing I do (right after installing the basic LAMP server like Ubuntu) is to install Webmin. After that is done, I can just administer 98% of the whole damn thing from my desktop browser. I hear a gasp from the penguins, and I apologize. My name is Al, and I'm a Webmin cheater. Alan K.
