No photoshop tricks here.  DX did this.

All but the earth model were converted to DX format with a 3D model
converter I'll release soon.  In the earth model, the ground and cloud
textures from J. Hasting's earth texture archive:

     http://gw.marketingden.com/planets/earth.html

were simply applied to regular grids and sphere mapped (the ground is
nearest neighbor, and the clouds are mipmapped and linear interpolated).

So, do you have a DX-Inventor, Inventor-DX converter? (I actually need the former to export DX objects to Open Inventor for our VRScape-based CAVE. If there is a cost, let me know.)
