Hmmm...I'm sorry I wan't too clear in my earlier message;
Chris, If you need DX-Inventor you should already have it
in the DXtoVRML exporter that Chris Kline wrote at the CTC
about six years ago. VRML 1.0 <= Inventor 2.1:
just change the filename extension from .wrl to .iv and
change the first line of the file from
#VRML V1.0 ascii to #Inventor V2.0 ascii
and don't use the URL field in the exporter cause Inventor
doesn't have those.
The VRML 2.0 exporter that was built into the last commercial
relears of DX writes VRML 2.0 files which require more work
to convert to Inventor.

OK that helps. I never paid much attention to VRML, which seemed like
a poorly conceived object type from the get-go, so I would have
assumed 2.0 was "better". As I said, we really hope to move beyond
static files to dynamic interaction, but in the meantime, we (or I)
have to convince the powers that be that DX should "infest" our
Windows-based CAVE, it not being native and all. The best proof I
have is that we can turn REAL science into 3D objects that one can
manipulate in the VR, while the only other stuff anyone has for
dog-and-pony shows is junk like the virtual roller coaster ride and
such silliness.
