No, don't think that's the problem. I've defined the correct settings/modes
for 8, 16 and 32 bpp in my XF86Config file. I'm running default 16 bpp,
which is no problem for whatever I'm running under XWindow (runlevel 5);
also OpenDX shows beautiful images, EXCEPT that colourbar in the
Colormap refuses to show correctly the colour spectrum.

Can't see how that's related to XConfig settings, though I'm not an X
guru; I do believe that something is wrong with the Colormap colour
"interpreter".
