Poll Results: What is an acceptable price for PDA software?
Posted by Wes on Monday, July 02, 2001 - 12:52 PM EDT

We have closed our PDA poll for June, and here are the results:

What is an acceptable price for PDA software?

 37.23% - $10-$19.99
 24.56% - $9.99 or less
 21.77% - Free
 12.09% - $20-$29.99
 1.95% - $30-$39.99
 1.56% - $50 or more
 0.84% - $40-$49.99

Total Votes: 1539

--------------------

As you can see.. for the respondants to this survey, $10-20 is not a "dead
zone" for Palm.. and actually seems to be the expected range.. there is, of
course, a large contingent of people who think all software should be free
(a debate I neither want to start or participate in). For my own part, two
of my products fall into the under $10 range and one more (with a much
smaller target market, thus a higher price) selling for $19.95.

Bottom line.. figure out what it cost you to develop, what you want back out
of it, how many you think you are likely to sell and at what pace.. then
compare that price to similar products and adjust it accordingly.
