OS X is not supposed to run on those machines. I wouldn't even try it if
I were you. You're not going to get the full effect of the OS on a
machine that old. I'm running OS X on a G4 Cube now (runs very well),
but I wouldn't even try it on an iMac (the G3 kinds less than 500 MHz).

I have two 8500s, I don't bother with anything higher than Mac OS 9.1
which runs decently on them. If you really want to make a good OS 9.1
machine of your 8500, get a G3 (or G4) processor upgrade, a good video
card (one of mine has an ATI Rage Orion) and all the RAM you can afford.

Why bother trying to make the 8500 run OS X? It wasn't designed for that
machine and if something goes seriously wrong, you're out of a Mac
unless you have an extra one.

Just a suggestion ... if you break your Mac, don't say that nobody
warned you.
