I've gone through Zip disks at an alarming rate. Ten times the failure rate of floppies. I have a couple of dozen new Zip disks that I am afraid to use in any of the drives.
I have dozens of Zip disks and have never had one fail. Something is wrong if you are having failures.
COD (Click-of-Death) is a head indexing/alignment problem and should not cause physical damage to disks.
