Do you DVD players ever have copy protection bothering your picture?

I have an APEX DVD player hooked to a VCR on AUX 1 and then the VCR
output is to the TV.

ONLY on some DVDs do I get a fade in and out of brightness and 3 sync
pulses at the top of the picture - is this copy protection at work???

Do you get this on a Computer DVD player?

Bill.
