Those fades and sync pulses suggest that the DVD is probably being mis-read.
the symptoms are the same as a copy protected Disney video, it wont be seen on TV but if you conect 2 video machines to copy the flickering is there, the trick around it is using a tv with 2 scart or rca connections.
