My understanding is that SBC will provide "DSL filters" (for a price) to allow phone or fax usage while connected -- guess this means it is ASDL.
To be more precise... Regardless of how many wires are in the cable that comes into your home, the phone company handles them by pairs. POTS(*) takes one pair. ADSL runs POTS *and* DSL over the *same* pair; the breakout is done with a filter, then it appears as separate jacks to the customer. Other forms of DSL require a separate 2nd pair to be used, in which case there may also be (depending on the filed tarif) an additional base charge for the 2nd pair's POTS dialtone).
