    ...hold down the mouse button right after the chime, 
    until the CD spits out. If there is an eject button on 
    the keyboard, you can try that also, in the same manner.

The USB mouse doesn't light up, suggesting that it's not functioning for 
some reason I don't know. I also question whether the keyboard currently 
works.

    I have not looked at the CD drives on iMacs. but if they 
    are like those on our legacy PCI Macs they have a small 
    hole on the front. A large paperclip bent so that the 
    end can be shoved into this hole can be pushed against 
    the lever inside which will eject the disk.

I will put on my eyeglasses and take a closer look. Thanks for the 
suggestions!
