No, there is a button on the right hand side (as you look at it). I think it is power driven as it will respond at any time there is power to the imac.
You have to know where it is to operate it, its not a good idea to start poking around with paper clips, as it is close to a circuit board.

In my opinion it would be very short sited to not design in a fail safe for a stuck disk..

And remember Glen this is a list were users stick keyboards in dish washing machines !
