    ...hold down the mouse button right after the chime,
    until the CD spits out. If there is an eject button on
    the keyboard, you can try that also, in the same manner.

The USB mouse doesn't light up, suggesting that it's not functioning for
some reason I don't know. I also question whether the keyboard currently
works.

I never owned and iMac but they have prambatterys two have the not ?
Long time ago someone said that it is possible to start up a mac with bad pram
battery, if you start repeatedly (as if zapping the pram) and then fire away into
the extension parade, but I have not tried that myself.
