Fluxstringer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> replied to my stuck CD problem:@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
I have not looked at the CD drives on iMacs. but if they are like those on our legacy PCI Macs they have a small hole on the front. A large paperclip bent so that the end can be shoved into this hole can be pushed against the lever inside which will eject the disk.
I tried poking a paperclip into the little hole next to the CD drive with no joy. Later, a coworker cracked open the case on the reluctant iMac and extracted the CD, to my great pleasure. He said that after eyeballing the CD drive up close, he's determined that the CD release button is software-driven, as opposed to a mechanical release.
Is this actually the case? --
I rarely get around an iMac and have never seen one open. so I cannot say for sure.
However why is there a hole there if you can't use a pin to push the lever. (And if there is no lever behind there why is there a hole ? )
On my Macs it takes a firm push with an unbent large paper clip.
I just took an 8X drive from an 8500 of the shelf . There is a small hole in the faceplate. ( making two holes to go through if installed )
I ijserted a paperclip . It took several tries. You have to push very hard.
And out popped my OS 8.5 install disk I had been looking for since last fall !
As I said I know little of iMacs. After all this is the PCI list !
