It may be Apple's foofey intent to drive us to buying new hardware and OS X... but screwing their older customer base is simply the best marketing Dell never paid for.
then why not make a release old the old mac OS es for free ?
The very old OS releases are available for free, System ?1? thru early 7. Releasing OS 8 or 9 for free would greatly encourage the used market -- which Apple would, apparently, rather see crushed.
