I'm no expert but since Apple nixed the true G4 specs which included PC peripheral connectivity originally I suspect every 3rd party maker of accessory items labeled as apple compatible has to pay some fee. . That is if the box says Apple or Mac on it anywhere no matter who makes itAt 12:04 PM -0400 5/18/04, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
Releasing OS 8 or 9 for free would greatly encourage the used market -- which Apple would, apparently, rather see crushed.
And why not? Apple sees not one cent from the second-hand market. It makes no business sense to do anything that would discourage the sale of new computers.

Apple has made some money on it. And since buying my PCI Macs I have bought a lot of these items. And official New Apple software as well.
And consider how much money must exchange hands for a repair shop to hang out a certified Apple repair shingle ? In Cuyahoga Falls Ohio there is a place called " The Mac Exchange " . The prices there on used eqiupment and repairs is so high it would fry your cpu just thinking about it !
Apple not making money off the second -hand market ?
Next you'll be telling me GM doesn't make any money selling high performance crate motors to hot rodders !
