I'm no expert but since Apple nixed the true G4 specs which included PC peripheral connectivity originally I suspect every 3rd party maker of accessory items labeled as apple compatible has to pay some fee. . That is if the box says Apple or Mac on it anywhere no matter who makes it
Apple has made some money on it. And since buying my PCI Macs I have bought a lot of these items. And official New Apple software as well.
And consider how much money must exchange hands for a repair shop to hang out a certified Apple repair shingle ? In Cuyahoga Falls Ohio there is a place called " The Mac Exchange " . The prices there on used eqiupment and repairs is so high it would fry your cpu just thinking about it !
Apple not making money off the second -hand market ?

What part of "second-hand" don't you understand? If you were not the first purchaser of a computer or peripheral that you own, then the manufacturer has made zero money from you on that item.

My computer and peripherals are all second-hand. Almost all of my software is either used or free. Apple has never realized any revenue from me. (They haven't lost any on me, though, because the choice was buying used or doing without. I'm disabled and living on a small pension.) I don't expect Apple to do anything to make new features available for my setup, and if there's any free software or new features from Apple that I can use I consider it a bonus.

Unless and until I buy a brand new Mac, I recognize and accept that I'm not part of Apple's customer base, and I'm in no position to demand anything from them. Nor am I under the illusion that Apple owes me anything. You are. Get over it. That's not the way the business world works.
