Check out Low End Mac (lowendmac.com), they have an exhaustive collection of articles and descriptions of all things Mac. 7300/7500/7600's are great, very upgradable. Same with 8500/8600's. Although at this point, prices being what they are, you could score a beige g3 desktop or tower for well under $200. For a little more, say under $350, a Blue & White G3 with firewire and OSX-ready is readily available as well. Just depends on your needs, how deep your pockets are, how much you want to tinker with it and whether you want classic MacOS or OSX.

Fellow PCI Users:

Many years ago I lusted in my heart for a really good Macintosh PowerPC
and I could not justify the cost, what with stuff the kids needed and bills to pay and
the rest of it.

I settled for second hand stuff because the top of the line PCI Macs were just
outrageously expensive. I still wanted one.

Now that everything has dropped off the scale and new Macs are cheap,
I find that I still want to own ONE really good 604e PowerPC to play with.

What one should I get ?

What ones SHOULDN'T I get ??

Are there problems with the 9600 models with the Kansas boards that
the 9600s with Tsunami boards don't have ?

Are there any high-end PCI models that turned out to be lemons ?
