I don't have a 9600 but the Cache chip will look like a RAM chip but larger and is located by itself on the board.

Hi,

I'm going to show my ignorance here. I've got a 9600 with a G4/700 in it. When I installed the processor upgrade the instruction book mentioned that you didn't have to take the L2 cache out of a 9600. How can I tell if I have one that has a removable cache, I guess what I'm asking is where is it located on the motherboard?

If I do have a removable cache, would i tbe best to remove it when installing a preocessor upgrade?

Thanks,
Bob

Just a word of warning, some 9600s (not many by all accounts) have problems with L2 cache and running a 50MHz bus speed. As long as you snag one that has a removable cache DIMM, rather then it soldered to the board, you should be ok.
