Well,
in my opinion, the Power Mac 9600 is the Ultimate PCI Power Mac - 6 slots, upgradable like in a dream, easy access on anything.
I have a Mach 5 model configured as follows, running smoothly and reliably (I use it in an audio and MIDI environment, and for graphic design):
- Mac OS 9.1
- Sonnet G4/700MHz
- 704MB RAM
- one 9GB IBM and one 18GB Western Digital (partitioned into two 9GB volumes) hard drive on the stock internal SCSI bus
- PCI slot A1: Yamaha SW1000XG+PLG150VL audio card
- PCI slot B1: ATI Radeon video card (with Apple Studio Display 15" LCD)
- PCI slot C1: ATI Radeon 7000 video card (with two further Apple Studio Display 15" LCDs)
- PCI slot D2: Yamaha DS2416 audio card
- PCI slot E2: Yamaha AX16-AT I/O card
- PCI slot F2: USB card (with 2 ports)
A Yamaha AX44 I/O box resides in the bottom 5 1/4" bay. There are also a stock internal Apple 24X CD reader, a stock internal Iomega Zip, and a stock internal floppy drive.
One of the best Macs I ever had.
