No doubt these Ram Disks have their uses. Since it appears you will use it
for cache management in browsing, do me a favour that no one else has done
for me yet: devise your own test to see if it has any speed advantage in
browsing. My trials, a couple of years back, showed no particular advantage
so worth having in this respect.

For browsing I can't see a speed advantage as I would still be online
by dialup which is the most limiting factor.

Not sure what dial up has to do with it?

A few disk accesses while you're waiting for the current page's elements to arrive via the modem isn't going to slow down the browser.

RAM disk. In which case on a machine with limited RAM in proportion
 to the task
and very limited caching space running from RAM disk would eliminate
constant calls to the Hard disk drive.

If a machine has limited ram, how can you afford any for a strictly
unnecessary item like a ram disk then? I don't follow you.

Me either. :)

Tossing away available RAM when you're trying to run processor or memory intensive tasks is ...

IMO the only time a RAM Disk is of any use is when you have a lot of extra memory AND you're running a disk i/o intensive application.

eg: Having a database live in a RAM Disk.
