In the wee hour of 04:02 PM 6/21/01 +1000, Jim Cladingboel bequeathed such
tales as these:
>Hi all,
>
>I am allowed unlimited on-line time, in periods of maximum three hours. I
>usually spend 60 to 90 minutes on-line between 3pm and 5pm daily. However,
>if I am still on-line at 5pm and not actively up- or downloading something,
>I am cut off at exactly 5. Customer service tells me it is not them, and
>can't explain how this happens (?). Can anyone suggest an explanation for
>this and/or are there programs which can help maintain a connection. I
>already have my email checked every 5 minutes, but it doesn't help.
Jim, when you joined this ISP did you install any custom software to
complete the dialup or did you have to create it yourself alone or by their
directions. If it was the former then they may have included a timer in
their software to perform such a disconnect. If you completed the dialup
yourself then this is a decision on your ISP's part to disconnect you at
this time every day. Does your ISP have support staff that come in at this
time for evening hours or does their entire shop close up at this
time? Your ISP is simply overlooking some details and simply will not
focus on them, unfortunately this is very common far too often. I've had
and seen similar occurrences and found after relentless conversations with
support that either I change providers or dial in again after disconnection.
